1. It's not awful.
2. You are actually drawing quite well (more well than you realize) .
3. Become more confident in drawing by drawing what you like, confidently, because what you like is your reason for drawing it.
4. You will probably not be impressed with it at first, but find a reason to draw your characters in a "wouldn't it be cool if they _____" kind of way. I used to do that for my favorite games as a kid. Kids do everything without caring about the outcome.
5. To get better at drawing something, study what you wish to draw. That's how we all get better at drawing.
6. Drawing takes a lot of time, so take the time to concentrate and focus on your work.
7. We all need advice sometimes, we ourselves are the best ones to listen to for advice, however. If you feel you want to draw something naturally, draw it, that is your curiosity, your mind is learning to express thoughts in pictures.
8. Anatomy is always a plus, study something that looks anatomically correct.
9. Collect and use art references, books, pictures and other forms of art that can help inspire you. These can be called a visual "vocabulary" and just like a regular vocabulary helps you understand words, a visual one will help you understand and remember pictures.
10. No one knows everything, strive to learn everything that interests you and your pictures will always be interesting, drawing is a form of thought after all.
11. There are no wrong questions.
12. There are no wrong answers.
13. Humor helps. Art is about emotion
14. Add a background.
15. Try different poses.
16. Add shadows. (or) Learn how to make it even more flat and cartoony.
17. Show the entire pose (add more canvas size).
18. This has an eddsworld vibe.
19. This has a madness interactive vibe.
20. Add thematic and stylistic variation to your art (this requires studying how other artists make art).
21. Pick good references, better artists make better art references, so study those, that's why everyone keeps telling us to study the masters. Early illustrators like Norman Rockwell, or even Frank Frazetta are great examples, and if you really want to dive off the deep end Robert Williams aka. "Mr. Bitchin" is world famous for taking "exponential imagination" or something like that to the extreme.
22. It's all just surrealism in the end, pick a side, make cartoons, art, games, it's all the same stuff. Watch this video about how newgrounds came about and you'll understand what I mean https://youtube.com/watch?v=Ncv6doXgKLw&feature=share .

I'd suggest using references to help construct more dynamic poses, and trying to move away from anime / chibi stuff
